I am a little later with this post than I wanted to be but I think this band needs a new name because there’s no “Might” about it! I was late to the party and found out that TMBG was coming to town and there were still some tickets remaining for the First Avenue shows. I was hoping to be able to photograph the show and not sure how to proceed, I consulted Dr. Google and it suggested contacting their management team. So I did. I received an email back from Phil with Upward Spiral Management within a day or so and introduced myself, etc. Phil was extremely generous and offered to leave a Photo Pass for me at Will Call. It was my first official photo pass and when I arrived and saw my name was actually on the list, I was very excited.

TMBG shows, for the last number of years, have strayed from the usual rock show format and instead of having an opening band and the headlining band, they fill both spots by playing a set and then having a break and then coming back for a second set. Twice as much TMBG? Yes please!

The band is made up of two John’s (Flansburgh and Linnell), two Dan’s (Weinkauf and Miller) and a Marty (Beller). Lest we forget about the Horn section, there is another Dan (Levine), Stan Harrison and Mark Pender. Wow, that’s a lot of guys.

Waiting for the fun to start we have Flansburgh’s guitar rig (top left), Dan Miller’s guitar rig (top middle), an autographed copy of their album Lincoln which was later given away (top right) and the John Linnell keyboard setup (bottom).

Here we have John Linnell (left) and John Flansburgh (right)…

Dan Miller (left), Danny Weinkauf (middle) and Marty Beller (right)

The Horns! Oh so many pictures of the horns! Dan Levine (Left), Mark Pender (Middle) and Stan Harrison (right).

I will try to find some space and upload a few more pictures but the show was awesome and I can’t thank Phil from Upward Spiral Management enough for allowing me the opportunity to post these!
